Building Your Online Image
Have you ever thought about how much information you post about yourself on the internet? You reveal parts of yourself through pictures, text posts, and tagged photos whether you realize that or not. The way you display your self online can have both a positive and negative effect on your image. Anyone can put your name in the google search bar and find out what they want about you. According to Nathan Chandler, a 10 year expert in consumer tech, "People who initially find you on the Internet have only that content by which to judge you."(1) Your future employer or customers would have access to see all your posts whether the post are good or bad and make biased assumptions of you before they have even gotten the chance to meet you in the real world. You could lose your job opportunity and some money. Chandler also mentions that if you are to be a professional at anything that you do, never post anything negative. Keep your page business-like.
Your online image doesn't just stop at your social medias, but you emails too. Nathan Chandler says to "use a professional e-mail address (not a free account from Gmail, Yahoo, or other providers). Carefully re-read e-mails and blog posts for grammar and spelling before you upload them."(2) Always use a professional email, no one wants a message from someone with a name like "brosbeforehoes@gmail.com" nor would they ever want to contact them again. It's best to use an email like 'JaneDoe@lifelink.com" because it gives more credibility and value to your brand and image.
It is your responsibility to maintain your online image and do the necessary precautions to make sure it can not be tainted. That means even your family and friends actions when it comes to your media platforms are also you're responsibility. People share thousands upon thousands of posts everyday and any negative posts from you or ones that you've been tagged in can be one of them.
